Tea is a work of art. Before I was a tea merchant I was a dance videographer seeking a way to express my own art; how I see things through the camera lens. I moved on to seek a new way to connect, through the sharing of a warm cup of tea. There are so many cultures that connect simply through a special drink made from local plants. Kava Kava – Yerba Maté – Rooibos are just a few.. Each herb has its own ceremonial way of drinking it or preparing it. Here in the west it feels more like Starbucks keeps people buzzed with some connection. But there is nothing like sharing space with something as delicate as tea.
With tea it reveals my connection to the culinary world and creates a new inspiration each day I take my first sip. Through my love for preparing things and cooking I have always loved to create an atmosphere for people to relax and use tea as another doorway into those states of peace.
In creating Taráz Teas I found a way to heal myself and others by making medicinal blends. In my beginnings back in 2013, I was dealing with digestive issues. I healed it all with herbs and started to share my blends while working at a tea shop. I was also making chai at the time for local cafes and then soon started buying my own herbs, teas and spices to start creating a new artform to express my love for connection. Now people drink my tea blends every day. I wanted to take a moment to mention the people that helped me get to where I am.
Haggai Vardi and Anthony Bradley helped me get started in a beautiful healing space, after they brought back a huge tea bar in a family van. We started promoting and sharing tea in this new sacred space we called Inspire Life Studio. It was tea that we used to bring people together in a space that offered yoga, workshops, and sounds healings.. A perfect hub for me to spread what I was learning. Pics below..
When you nurture a passion it takes years to cultivate your true intentions. This was when a friend of our studio Maxwellvision coined a term for these teas.. “Tea with Intention”
I have had so much support through people seeking to heal themselves.. I am a very nostalgic person. Thoughts and memories are stored after each sip, and can be a reminder of a taste or scent you remembered when you were young. A feeling or vision you have of peaceful times. These are the comments I get.
When you work together you create beautiful relationships, so I just kept creating blends that demonstrates the evolving complexities and layers of these connections through “deep flavors” “rich and complex.” When you taste something that a tea family has taken so much time to prepare, you taste rich traditions and memories flash into your minds.
Alex Johnson and Heath Rost were among our friends at Inspire Life that brought me the gift of this amazing website. They devoted lots of hours and shared tea with all who came. I am so grateful for our friendship.
Franki Zinke is the one I receive constant support through her own gifts as an artist. She designs the labels and amazing menus that we sit and create for each new cafe that carries our teas. She also helps in creating our signature tea blends.
And Aria Vaillancourt who has helped share and promote my teas and took time to shoot the wonderful photos for the website. Thank you to all whom I didn’t mention, there are so many others! (Michelle Baird!!!)
Tea is a gift of memories and I am so grateful to have met you all and shared this experience. ~Taráz
